Dresden Daises
With death we celebrate life that once was, but with birth, we celebrate life that will be. We have had a few additions to the family and it is always fun to make quilts for babies. A quilt that will be used and messed around with till it tears and tatters. The quilt would indeed live it's best life.
I had a few charm packs of fabric collections by Rifle Paper Co. Their floral patterns are perfectly suited for baby quilts. I decided to throw up the blocks along with some Riley Blake dot fabric, hoping for a quick finish.
I tried a few layouts and settled on this which at the time looked good to me.
I promptly quilted it, echoing the seams on both sides. All in a days work.
Just as I was done quilting, is when I realized the quilt was just to plain for me. It did not have that oomph I was looking for. Even though I loved the fabrics when they all came together they looked rather plain. So I found fabrics in the same color palette from my stash and decided to add mini Dresdens to the plain blocks. I auditioned the first one and liked how it looked.
Since the quilt was already quilted the Dresdens would need to be appliquéd on to the quilt and this is where I really needed to wrangle the quilt as I stitched the block around in a circle. Nevertheless I was committed as it really gave the quilt a pop.
I bound the quilt in a stripped fabric and liked how it turned out in the end.
